The Little Larder

Drive around New Farm on a weekend and you’ll spot the queue for a table at The Little Larder.  It’s anything but little.  And with good reason too – this cafe is a firm favourite on Brisbane’s breakfast hit list.

Fortunately there was no queue when we arrived well past brunching hour and we were immediately shown to a roomy table by the open windows.  Drinks in hand (coffee for the boy, mango smoothie for me), we pondered the menu.

Coffee   Mango smoothie

The Little Larder offer all-day breakfast and you’ll find all the usual suspects on the menu.  I had heard about their crispy polenta but then I saw the words that always clinch a breakfast deal for me: avocado and goat’s cheese.

Smashed avocado on toast

Sourdough toast topped with smashed avocado, whipped goat’s cheese and a beetroot relish. Simple ingredients done well with just the right amount of piquancy.  The other half settled for their famed pesto scrambled eggs with smoked salmon.  Apparently it was tasty – he’d polished it off before I could try some.

The only negative was that my mango smoothie could have done with a bit more mango.  But whatever – these guys offer all day breakfast so we’re bound to be back.  The Little Larder is open for breakfast and lunch 7 days a week – they don’t have a website but all the relevant details are on their Facebook page.
