Rocklea Markets

The Saturday Fresh Markets at Rocklea (also referred to simply as The Rocklea Markets) is Brisbane’s largest fresh produce market.

WHAT                                                                                                                                                                                         There are more than 200 stalls offering the freshest fruit and vegetables, breads, meat and seafood, deli items (hello cheese!) and plants together with the usual market favourites (craft, clothing and confectionery – come back for more on Sunday during the Discovery Markets).  The Saturday Markets also offer a small selection of freshly cut flowers but if you want a bigger range, head across the road to the Brisbane Flower Market which is also open to the public on Saturdays.  Once you’ve meandered along the aisles and aisles of produce, grab a bite to eat from one of the many food stalls.

WHEN
Both markets are held every Saturday and Sunday from 6am to 12pm.

WHERE
Brisbane MarketPlace (252 Sherwood Rd, Rocklea – see map).

WHY                                                                                                                                                                                        People rave about the Rocklea Markets so I had really high expectations from this Brisbane institution.  Perhaps too high because I left disappointed.  The produce is certainly fresh and cheap,  but I’m not sure that offsets the long drive and the even longer queues for everything.   Personally, I prefer the Carseldine Markets or the Jan Powers Farmers Market in New Farm.  Which is your favourite?
